U19 elite round kicks off in Turkey

The UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round kicks off on Wednesday with Turkey hosting one of seven groups which will determine who joins hosts France in this summer's finals.

Twenty-eight teams are aiming to join hosts France in the 9th UEFA European Under-19 Championship this summer when the elite round kicks off on Wednesday.

Turkey have home advantage as Norway, Azerbaijan and four-time champions Spain visit in Group 4, the first of the seven elite round sections. The remaining groups are played in May, with the Netherlands and Germany in Group 6 and Italy, Russia and the Czech Republic involved in Group 5.

The final section begins on 26 May, holders Ukraine welcoming England – the side they beat in the 2008/09 final in Donetsk – Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Republic of Ireland in Group 3. The top team in each section join France in the draw for the final tournament, which will be held in Caen on 4 June, with the tournament taking place in July.
