England made an impressive start to Elite round Group 6 as headed goals from Danny Rose and Nile Ranger earned victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Doncaster.
Hometown boy
Returning to his home town, Tottenham Hotspur FC winger Rose broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time when he headed Nathan Delfouneso's cross back across goal and Newcastle United FC striker Ranger struck late on in the second half to confirm the victory for Brian Eastick's side.
Woodwork struck
England started brightly and though Matthew James's hooked effort came back off the crossbar just before the half-hour , they got their breakthrough before the interval. Aston Villa FC striker Delfouneso beat Miroslav Stavanović on the right flank and crossed for Rose to nod in. The Bosnians displayed more attacking intent after the restart with Anes Haudić firing over and Edin Visca hitting the side-netting. It took a stunning save from Jason Steele to preserve England's advantage when Ermin Gadzo's free-kick appeared destined for the top corner but England composed themselves and dominated the closing stages.
Moses delivery
Ranger miscued a presentable header while a last-ditch challenge from Nermin Bicakčić denied Victor Moses, but England finally confirmed victory five minutes from time when Moses delivered a free-kick that Ranger nodded in. Eastick's charges face Slovakia on Friday in their second game in the section while Bosnia-Herzegovina will meet Scotland.
