Linz draw
Greece edged out unbeaten Croatia to secure their place in the finals draw, which features two former winners of this trophy and will be held at the RaiffeisenForum in Linz at 18.30CET on 13 June. Jim Boyce, the chairman of UEFA's youth and amateur football committee, will conduct the draw alongside tournament ambassador and former Austrian international Andreas Herzog and Timea Feher, Miss Oberösterreich 2006. Linz, Pasching, Ried and Styer will hosts games at the tournament from 16 July with the final taking place at the Linzer Stadion on Friday 27 July.
France return
France, champions in 2005, were the first side to qualify for this season's event having missed out on the finals a year ago, winning 3-1 against Israel on the final day of Group 6 action to pip the hosts for first place. Germany then recovered from drawing their opening Group 1 fixture with Hungary to defeat the Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria and secure progress, while having won their first U17 title last year, Russia will be aiming to claim the U19 trophy on their finals debut. Ravil Sabitov's side defeated England and the Czech Republic before a goalless draw against the Netherlands secured first place in Group 3.
Portugal progress
Group 4 featured three of the teams who qualified for the 2006 finals with Portugal edging out last year's finalists and mini-tournament hosts Scotland and Turkey to qualify, before Spain confirmed their participation by winning all three Group 5 games. On the two previous occasions they had lifted the trophy Spain had bowed out in the Elite round but Ginés Meléndez's side made no such mistake, scoring 12 goals in defeating Iceland, Azerbaijan and Norway. Serbia are the only other side to qualify from maximum points from the Elite round after defeating Denmark, Switzerland and Romania in Group 7 while Greece's 4-0 victory against Sweden on Wednesday left them two points ahead of Croatia despite the latter's win against Italy.
