Spanish success
Juanfran of Real Madrid CF opened the scoring on 28 minutes and struck again eight minutes later. Captain Robuste secured a 3-0 win 21 minutes from time, Spain's fourth victory without reply in this competition. On Saturday they remain in Emmen for a meeting with four-time winners Argentina, who came from behind to oust Colombia 2-1 with a last-gasp Julio Barroso goal.
Netherlands proceed
The hosts - without midfielder Ibrahim Afellay for the rest of the finals due to ankle ligament damage suffered in the group stage - are also into the last eight, having kept up their perfect record here by beating Chile 3-0. AFC Ajax forward Ryan Babel took just three minutes to put the Dutch ahead in Doetinchem after racing on to Dwight Tiendalli's free-kick.
John confirms victory
Babel then set up Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to double the advantage in the 72nd minute and having subsequently replaced the Arsenal FC player, Collins John confirmed victory eight minutes later. Netherlands coach Foppe de Haan said: "There was no way we could lose once we started playing our game."
Ukraine out
They now tackle Nigeria in Kerkrade on Saturday after the African Under-20 champions defeated Ukraine 1-0. Having qualified second in Group B, Aleksei Mikhailichenko's side held out for 80 minutes before Olympique de Marseille left-back Taye Taiwo claimed the decisive goal, striking following a short corner. Ukraine's Oleksandr Aliyev has the consolation of being the tournament's current joint-top scorer with five goals alongside Spain's Llorente.
