Determined Armenians deny Italy

Italy made a slow start in their bid to progress to the UEFA European Under-19 Championship from Elite round Group 4, as a disciplined Armenia side ground out a goalless draw in Andrashida.

Disciplined defending
The 2003 winners - who also reached the final tournament in Switzerland a year ago, failing to progress beyond the group stage - were unable to break down a disciplined Armenian defence at the Municipal stadium. In swelteringly hot conditions, Paolo Berrettini's team were unable to impose themselves and ultimately had to settle for a single point.

Hungarian task
The Italians will hope to step up their attempt to reach this summer's finals in Northern Ireland in their second match, against mini-tournament hosts Hungary, on Sunday. Armenia play Belgium the same day.
