Article body
Iniesta on target
Spain, winners of the 2002 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, needed only a point against Uzbekistan to progress after Argentina had secured top spot in Group B earlier in the day, beating Mali 3-1. As it was, Armando Ufarte's side took all three, with Andrés Iniesta's 15th-minute strike proving the difference between the teams in Sharjah.
Spain advance
Spain, three points behind the South Americans, advance to a meeting with the Group F runners-up - who could yet be 2002 European U19 Championship runners-up Germany. Argentina will play one of the best four third-placed countries.
Slovakia through
Slovakia also finished second in their section, Group A. Viktor Pecovsky's goal four minutes after half-time was enough to beat Panama in their match. Burkina Faso had earlier won the group courtesy of a 0-0 draw with hosts UAE.
Czechs go out
Brazil will be Slovakia's next opponents after the Czech Republic missed their chance to overtake the South Americans and clinch second place in Group C. In the event, the Czechs finished two points behind the Brazilians after losing 1-0 against Canada, for whom Iain Hume scored in the 80th minute. Australia topped the pool after a 3-2 victory against Brazil.
