Germany has won the 2015 Maurice Burlaz Trophy, the prize awarded to the national association that has achieved the best results in UEFA's men's youth competitions over the previous two seasons and which is named after the Frenchman and former vice-chairman of the UEFA Youth Committee.
The trophy was presented to German Football Association (DFB) youth teams manager Joti Chatzialexiou at the UEFA youth competitions draw ceremony at the House of European Football in Nyon on Thursday. The prize has been awarded to European national associations since 1990, on the basis of results obtained in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the UEFA European U19 Championship over the previous two seasons.
This is the third time Germany has received this honour after 1992 and 2009, with Spain having taken the prize eight times either joint or outright. Germany were alone in qualifying for both final tournaments of both youth competitions over the last two years, winning the 2014 U19 Championship and finishing 2015 U17 runners-up. They host next summer's U19 finals.
Reaction: Joti Chatzialexiou, DFB
We're naturally very proud, and it's confirmation of the good work that we've done in recent years. We have always tried to constantly develop over the years, particular in technical terms, and I believe one of the reasons for this is the players who have come into Germany. They have added technical strengths to our [traditional] mental and physical strengths. In particular, we hope that we can play a leading role as hosts of the final tournament next year. We want to organise a good tournament and attract large numbers of spectators to the matches.
