As Bulgaria makes final preparations for the staging of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, which starts on Wednesday, Bulgarian Football Union (BFS) president Borislav Mihaylov reflects on the needs of his association to work together with UEFA for the development of football in the country.
On preparations for the finals ...
"The most important thing was changing and improving the infrastructure [in Bulgaria]. Thanks to UEFA, the Prime Minister, the minister for sport, our own efforts and the mayors of the districts where the matches will be played, the pitches [have been] improved. Everything will be ready, but that was the hardest part."
On hopes for the legacy of the tournament ...
"The best thing is that there will be a European Championship in Bulgaria. It's one of the biggest events we've had in our country ever, and with 16 teams. The most important part is promoting it for the younger generation, and to pick the locations, stadiums and the cities, to be able to reignite a love for football among the youth of Bulgaria."
