Austria qualified for the finals undefeated. Manfred Zsak's team did not concede a goal in their first four matches of the campaign, all of them wins, and were only denied a clean sweep of six victories by Russia on the last day of elite round Group 5. "I want to thank my players as well as my staff," said Zsak. "Everyone did their best and so, as a team, we have qualified together."

Three-goal top scorer Oliver Filip, who converted a decisive penalty in the elite round opener against Iceland, is considered one of Austria's biggest talents. National champions FC Salzburg signed the 17-year-old last summer from SK Sturm Graz.

Qualifying round: San Marino 2-0, Albania 2-0, Norway 2-0 (Group 9 winners)

Elite round: Iceland 1-0, Wales 3-2, Russia 1-1 (Group 5 winners)
