It is 30 years since Greece's most successful run in the competition, when they lost to the Soviet Union in the 1985 Under-16 final, and five years since they last qualified for the U17 final tournament. The class of 2015 secured their finals place with a 1-0 victory against hosts Poland in the elite round.

The highlight of their qualifying campaign was the winning goal in that game, an impressive solo effort by FC Schalke 04's 15-year-old attacking midfielder Ioannis Tsingos. "These players are the future of Greek football and deserve this success," coach Vassilis Georgopoulos said. "I'm convinced they can achieve much more. We are up for the challenge."

Qualifying round: Ukraine 0-0, Sweden 0-0, Latvia 1-0 (Group 5 runners-up)

Elite round: Republic of Ireland 2-2, Poland 1-0, Belarus 0-0 (Group 4 winners)
