• The home of NK Maribor will stage three group games in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship.

• The area of Ljudski vrt, once called the Volksgarten, is outside the historic Maribor city walls, and football has been played there since 1920.

• Originally able to hold 20,000, as it did for Maribor's Yugoslavian game against FK Proleter Zrenjanin in 1973, it became an all-seater stadium in 1998.

• One of the two main venues for the Slovenian national team, Ljudski vrt has also staged several cup finals. Maribor played S.S. Lazio, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Dynamo Kyiv at the stadium in the 1999/2000 UEFA Champions League group stage.

• The city of Maribor is Slovenia's second largest and is one of two 2012 European Capitals of Culture along with Guimaraes in Portugal.
