An added-time equaliser for Romania was not enough for them to deny hosts Bosnia-Herzegovina third place in UEFA European Under-17 Championship elite round Group 2.

The sides knew they both could not qualify before kick-off, with Bosnia-Herzegovina having one point to their opponents' zero. Within 12 minutes the home side were two up and they still led 3-1 with 14 minutes left, only for Romania to mount a comeback.

Safet Sivišić gave Bosnia-Herzegovina the lead in less than 100 seconds and he jinked past Constantin Teodor Lica and shot in. It was 2-0 when Anid Travančić's corner was flicked on by Emir Imširović for Mirza Ćemalović to turn in, though Romania pulled one back before the break when Mihail Baluta pounced after Kristijan Jajalo could only parry Kristijan Jajalo's cross from the left.

Ćemalović restored the home side's two-goal cushion early in the second half with a fine solo effort, his third strike of the elite round. The lead was reduced again, though, by Baluta from the edge of the box. Substitute Cristian Gavra levelled the scores to ensure a consolation point for Romania.

Romania coach Florin Cheran said: "The start for us was very bad. We made a few individual mistakes, from which we conceded goals. However, Bosnia-Herzegovina weakened, which we exploited, and finally got a deserved point. I am happy that we were not defeated."

His opposite number Velimir Stojnić added: "I do not understand how we were not able to win. We had the game under control, were ahead and better for the first 70 minutes. However, in  the last 10 minutes it was as if we were not on the pitch. I congratulate the Romanians on not being beaten until the final whistle. They deserved the point."
