Article body
The Czech Republic and Latvia have completed the UEFA European Under-17 Championship elite round lineup after they were confirmed as the two best third-placed teams from the qualifying round.
Only results against the leading pair in each section were taken into account, and by that reckoning across the 13 groups, the Czech Republic were best and Latvia second, narrowly pipping Israel, Finland and Montenegro to progress for the first time in six years. They join the group winners and runners-up in the draw at 11.15CET on 30 November, which will split the 28 hopefuls into seven groups of four to be played in spring with the winners joining hosts Serbia in the finals from 3 to 15 May.
Seedings for that draw will be confirmed shortly, but among the teams in the hat are holders England, 2010 runners-up Spain and indeed the rest of last season's finalists – France, Turkey, Portugal, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Greece. All previous winners are also represented: Switzerland, Portugal, France, Turkey, Russia, Spain and Germany as well as England. The tournament also acts as a qualifier for the FIFA U-17 World Cup next summer in Mexico, with Switzerland the holders.
