Slovenia and France first to advance

Slovenia and France are the first teams through to the UEFA European Under-17 Championship elite round in March after taking the top two slots in qualifying round Group 5 in Sarajevo.

Going into the final day, Slovenia led 2004 winners France and mini-tournament hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina by a point, with Greece two further behind. The positions remained the same after the third set of matches, however, as Slovenia defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 and France salvaged a 2-2 draw against Greece thanks to Gnaly Cornet's added-time equaliser.

France, aiming to qualify for their seventh consecutive final tournament, were on top after the opening fixtures, having overcome Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-1 while Greece and Slovenia drew 0-0. Cornet's early goal was cancelled out before the break by Samir Radovac, but Kingsley Coman and Sega Coulibaly decided the game in the last 19 minutes.

The home nation bounced back two days later, defeating Greece 2-1 as Adnan Bašić and Marko Bihojević struck either side of the break. Michail Niouman pulled one back but Panagiotis Deligiannidis was then dismissed for two added-time cautions. Slovenia went top by beating France 1-0 through Alen Ožbolt's penalty two minutes into the second half. It was a position they would not relinquish.

Bosnia and Herzegovina must wait to see if they end up as one of the two third-placed teams with the best record against the leading pair in their group.
