Last season's UEFA European Under-17 Championship runners-up the Netherlands have made a winning start to elite round Group 1.
Jürgen Locadia put his side ahead against Ukraine after seven minutes and Davy Klaassen sealed victory with 17 minutes left. The Netherlands could seal a fourth straight qualification under Albert Stuivenberg on Saturday if they defeat Georgia and hosts the Czech Republic do not beat Ukraine.
It was a brilliant strike from 15 metres out by Locadia that broke the deadlock and it was not until four minutes before the interval that Serhiy Vakulenko had Ukraine's first chance. Mats van Huijgevoort's corners were a constant source of danger and Klaassen turned one in to end all hopes of a Ukraine comeback.
