Valeri Kazaishvili's strike on the stroke of half-time ensured Georgia began UEFA European Under-17 Championship elite round Group 1 by defeating the host nation.
The Czech Republic had the best of the early chances but fell behind in first-half added time when goalkeeper Vlastimil Veselý was out of position and Kazaishvili tapped into an empty net. The home side were unable to turn the game with Davit Skhirtladze outstanding in the Georgia defence.
Georgia will qualify for the first time since the last 16-team final tournament in 2001/02 if they beat the Netherlands on Saturday and Ukraine do not win against the Czech Republic.
