France's bid to reach a fourth straight UEFA European Under-17 Championship final tournament is off to a good start as they and Ukraine moved through from qualifying round Group 7.
Ukraine through
Guy Ferrier's side were through with a match to spare after beating both Slovenia and hosts Estonaa 3-1, and Ukraine held Les Mini-Bleus on the final day to join them in the Elite round. Estonia beat Slovenia 1-0 for third place but the margin of their loss to France means they cannot go through as one of the two third-placed sides with the best record against the leading pair in their group.
France wins
Dylan Deligny, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Yaya Sanogo scored the goals in France's opening win, Matej Palčić pulling one back for Slovenia. Ukraine drew 0-0 with Estonia then defeated Slovenia 1-0 thanks to Yasyn Khamid's goal on the stroke of half-time. Sanogo's early goal for France was cancelled out by Estonia's Richard Leht but the AJ Auxerre forward scored again with ten minutes left and Bilel Omrani clinched his side's progress.
Estonia denied
First place was France's after substitute Ibrahima Tandia equalised with seven minutes left against Ukraine, who had taken the lead through Ivan Lukanyuk and got the point they needed to move out of reach of Estonia. The hosts overcame Slovenia via Artur Rättel's goal on 58 minutes.
