Castaignos and Thy share scorers' prize

Netherlands forward Luc Castaignos and Germany striker Lennart Thy both were on target in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship final to share the prize of tournament top scorer.

The two No9s were level in first place with Thy's strike partner Kevin Scheidhauer and Switzerland left-back Janick Kamber at kick-off in Magdeburg but they finished one clear of that pair on three goals. Castaignos's opener in the final made him the Netherlands' all-team leading U17 scorer with eleven goals while Thy, who equalised in Magdeburg, was among ten different players who registered for Germany in their five games, the last being Florian Trinks with his extra-time free-kick to make it 2-1 to the tournament hosts in the decider.

Muhammet honour
Castaignos, and team-mate Shabir Isoufi who claimed one goal in the finals, both finished one short of being the top scorer for the U17 season including qualifying. That honour went to Turkey striker Muhammet Demir, scorer of seven goals including six in the qualifying round. He was injured for the Elite round but returned for the finals and was on target in Turkey's 2-1 loss to the Netherlands.
