- Salzburg were runners-up last season, when Atlético also made the Nyon finals. Ajax and Man City have also previously made the semis.
- Dortmund, Liverpool, Paris and Sporting CP reached last season's quarter-finals, with AZ, Genk and Real Madrid eliminated in the round of 16.

- Milan are at this stage for the first time since the inaugural 2013/14 season.
- Ruh are in their debut season.
- Hajduk are also in the round of 16 for the first time.
How the Youth League knockout ties were formed
All games are played as single-legged ties. No teams were seeded and there was no country protection in any round.
Round of 16 (28 February/1 March)
- The eight group winners of the UEFA Champions League path group stage were drawn against the eight winners of the knockout round play-offs.
- The winners and runners-up of the same group in the Champions League path could not be drawn against each other.
Draw procedure
- Two pots were prepared, one for the eight group winners and the other for the eight winners of the knockout round play-offs.
- The balls containing the eight group winners were placed in a bowl marked 'Group winners' and the balls containing the eight winners of the knockout round play-offs were placed in a bowl marked 'Winners of the knockout play-offs'.
- One ball was taken from each bowl and placed in a large empty bowl, where they were shuffled. The first team drawn would play at home against the second team drawn.
- The same procedure was carried out with the remaining balls to complete all the round of 16 pairings.
- If the winners and runners-up of the same group in the Champions League path were drawn to play each other, the team drawn second was put to one side. In its place, another ball was drawn from the corresponding bowl to complete the pairing. The team put to one side would be the away team in the next pairing. Another ball would be drawn from the other bowl, to determine the home team in this pairing.
- If the winners and runners-up of the same group in the Champions League path were the last two teams remaining in the draw, the team drawn as the visiting team in the second-to-last pairing would instead be the visiting team in the last pairing. One of the last two would be drawn from the corresponding bowl to complete the second-to-last pairing. The remaining ball would then be drawn as the home team in the last pairing.
Quarter-finals (14/15 March)
- Eight balls containing slips of paper marked 'Winners of match 1' to 'Winners of match 8' were placed in a large central bowl and shuffled.
- The first and second balls drawn determined the first quarter-final pairing, the first ball drawn representing the home team.
- The procedure was repeated with the remaining balls in the bowl to complete the quarter-final pairings.
Semi-finals (21 April, Nyon)
- Four balls containing slips of paper marked 'Winners of quarter-final 1' to 'Winners of quarter-final 4' were placed in a large central bowl and shuffled.
- The first and second balls drawn determined the first semi-final pairing, the first ball drawn representing the home team (for administrative reasons).
- The procedure was repeated with the remaining balls in the bowl to complete the semi-final pairings.
Final (24 April, Nyon)
- Two balls containing slips of paper marked 'Winners of semi-final 1' and 'Winners of semi-final 2' were placed in a large central bowl and shuffled. The first ball drawn designated the home team for the final (for administrative reasons).
