UEFA Youth League play-off draw: Panathinaikos-Porto, Young Boys-Salzburg, Genk-Juventus, AZ-Frankfurt, Hibernian-Dortmund

The UEFA Youth League play-off ties have been set, with former champions Porto visiting Panathinaikos and Salzburg going to Young Boys, plus other games including AZ Alkmaar vs Eintracht Frankfurt and Genk vs Juventus.

The eight teams that progressed from the domestic champions path have been drawn at home to the runners-up from the UEFA Champions League path group stage. The winners will progress to join the teams that topped the eight groups in the round of 16, with a straight knockout from then on to decide the four teams that reach April's Nyon finals.

Meet the contenders

• Porto (2018/19) and Salzburg (2016/17) are former winners. Salzburg were also runners-up last season.
• Shakhtar were runners-up in 2014/15, the last time they got past the group stage.
• Juventus reached last season's semi-finals while Dortmund made the quarters; Ajax have also previously featured in the final four.
• Frankfurt, Hibernian, Panathinaikos and Ruh Lviv are all on debut.
• MTK are the first Hungarian side to get to this stage; Young Boys are also there for the first tine.
• AZ and Genk made the round of 16 from this path last season; Hajduk and Inter lost in the 2021/22 play-offs.

How the draw worked

• The draw respected the following principles, in accordance with Paragraph 16.02 of the 2022/23 UEFA Youth League regulations:
  - The eight winners of the second round of the domestic champions path were drawn against the eight group runners-up of the UEFA Champions League path group stage.
  - Clubs from the same association could not be drawn against each other.
  - The eight winners of the second round of the domestic champions path play at home (single-leg ties).
• Eight balls containing the names of the winners of the second round of the domestic champions path were placed in a bowl.
• A first ball was drawn from the bowl. The team drawn was placed as the home team in match 1.
• In accordance with the above draw conditions, the computer then showed which runners-up from the UEFA Champions League path group stage were eligible to play as the visiting team in match 1. These teams' names were placed in a bowl.
• A ball was drawn from that bowl to complete the pairing for match 1. The team drawn was placed as the visiting team in match 1.
• The above procedure was repeated for the remaining matches.
• If the computer indicated that only one runner-up from the UEFA Champions League path group stage was eligible to play as the visiting team in a match, that team was automatically assigned to the match and no ball was drawn.
