Scott great for Chelsea
The Chelsea Under-19 goal machine that is Tammy Abraham boosted his tally with another couple of valuable strikes in the 3-1 Group G defeat of Dynamo Kyiv but the progress of the powerfully built striker should not eclipse the contribution of other members of Adi Viveash's team.

Kyle Scott was an eye-catching performer in Wednesday's home victory that assures Chelsea of at least a place in the play-offs. The 17-year-old bossed the midfield, his keen eye for the penetrative forward pass regularly unhinging the Dynamo defence.

Afterwards Scott won lavish praise from coach Viveash, who said: "Kyle has been our best player in Europe and he's another that we've got high hopes for. He's very aggressive on the press and uses the ball fantastically well. We like to control games from the central area and you need to be good on the ball to do that. Against some imposing players he was also able to use his body extremely well physically."

Nuñez new leader
Benfica's Diogo Gonçalves had been setting the pace in the goalscorers' chart – but on Tuesday he was overtaken by Roberto Nuñez of Atlético Madrid thanks to his four in the 9-0 Group C triumph in Astana, making light of the lengthy journey to Kazakhstan and 08.00CET (13.00 local time) kick-off. Having previously scored three goals in both the 2013/14 and the 2014/15 UEFA Youth Leagues, 19-year-old forward Nuñez now has a competition-record career total of 14, overtaking Anderlecht's Aaron Leya Iseka.

Resilience the key as City roll on
"The players stuck to our game plan, fought for each other until the very end, overcame some difficult periods and defended so well: I think we played the perfect away game," was the verdict of Manchester City coach Patrick Vieira after Tuesday's fiercely contested 2-0 Group D success at Sevilla, an encounter featuring two goals for No9 Thierry Ambrose and a late red card for each side.

"Sevilla worked very hard without the ball and pressed us very high, but we managed not to concede a goal, tried to play football and got good service to our strikers," added Vieira of the win that clinched his charges’ place in the play-offs at least.

"I'm particularly happy because the players are all really tired. When you've won a game and they're all that tired, it's a sign they've really earned it."

Mayoral making his mark
Knowing a victory was imperative in their rematch with Paris Saint-Germain, having lost 4-1 in France last time out, Real Madrid registered a 2-0 triumph that has blown Group A wide open.

Inspired by forward Borja Mayoral – who doubled the hosts' advantage – the Spanish outfit now sit just a point behind Paris in second. These are exciting times for the 18-year-old, who in addition to making his Liga debut as a late substitute against Las Palmas last weekend, has become a fixture for Spain's U21s this term.

You may have seen our feature last week on the brothers and sons of well-known players making a name for themselves in the UEFA Youth League. Just to prove it, Joshua Holtby (Lewis's brother) scored in Borussia Mönchengladbach's 3-2 conquest of Juventus, Luca Zidane (Zinédine's goalkeeping son) kept a clean sheet for Madrid against Paris, and Lorenzo Di Livio (child of Angelo) was part of the Roma team that thrashed Bayer Leverkuen 5-1. Sadiq Umar is one to watch
Roma's flagging campaign needed something special to revive it as they welcomed Leverkusen in Group E on Wednesday – Sadiq Umar duly provided it. The Nigerian attacker struck a hat-trick and claimed an assist in the 5-1 success and coach Alberto De Rossi (father of Daniele) was full of praise.

"He's unconventional. Sometimes he looks like he doesn't have any technique, then with his next touch he proves you wrong. He scores goals and he can set up plenty too. He's a player we have particularly high hopes for."
