Devante Cole's first-half goal was enough to earn Manchester City FC a 1-0 victory at Club Atlético de Madrid that takes them through to the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals.
Cole struck from close range on 25 minutes following excellent work from Thierry Ambrose, but it was end to end from then on. Little more than 60 seconds later, City goalkeeper Billy O'Brien tipped Alberto's header onto the bar and the visitors also required a brilliant piece of defending from Shay Facey after a superb Atlético team move.
Still the chances kept coming, with Cole spurning two opportunities to make the game safe either side of a wonderful opening for the hosts' Jony, who failed to beat O'Brien after a defensive lapse left him one on one. Patrick Vieira's City held on to set up a home meeting with SL Benfica in the last eight.
