La Real win again, Narváez scores four

Group A
Bayer 04 Leverkusen 1-2 FC Shakhtar Donetsk
Two goals in three minutes sealed Shakhtar's second win of the campaign. The Ukrainian side took the lead with their first attack of the second half, hitting Leverkusen on the break after the hosts lost possession in midfield. Denys Arendaruk got to the byline and centred for Mykyta Adamenko to score. Andriy Boryachuk then struck with a deflected effort from the edge of the area, securing a two-goal cushion which was halved just before the hour when Francesco Gibaldi turned his marker and fired into the top-left corner from inside the box. Joy then turned to anguish for Gibaldi, brought on five minutes before his goal, as he left the field with a serious knee injury.

Manchester United FC 0-1 Real Sociedad de Fútbol
Álvaro Odriozola's fourth-minute goal settled the contest. Jon Bautista did well to get behind the United defence, shrug off his marker and draw goalkeeper Joel Castro before sliding the ball across for Odriozola to score. The Basque club should have added to their advantage in the first half, with Odriozola and Bautista spurning inviting one-on-one opportunities, but despite United going close after the interval through Joshua Harrop and Joe Rothwell, La Real played the more cohesive, eye-catching football throughout.

Group B
Galatasaray AŞ 0-1 FC København
København moved onto five points with a narrow victory in Istanbul. Both teams rattled the crossbar in the first period, FCK's Yones Felfel doing so with a header before Cimbom captain Mehmet Bayram tried his luck with a powerful shot from distance. The visitors, always a threat on the counterattack, broke through in fortuitous circumstances on 58 minutes. Daniel Chukwumah dribbled into the area and delivered a cross which hit goalkeeper Birhan Tetik and Melih Kartal before going into the net.

Real Madrid CF 6-2 Juventus
Madrid, following two draws, emphatically registered their first victory, Juan José Narváez the star turn with four goals. After Francisco José Rodríguez made it 3-0, Narváez completed his hat-trick seven minutes into the second half and rounded off the scoring late on from the penalty spot. Juventus had reduced their deficit to 4-2 with 12 minutes left courtesy of Sergio Buenacasa Alba and substitute Alhassane Soumah, but Javier Muñoz Jiménez swiftly ended any faint hopes the Bianconeri harboured of a dramatic comeback.

Group C
SL Benfica 0-0 Olympiacos FC
Benfica's 100% record ended against a resilient Olympiacos side. The Eagles had the upper hand for large swathes of the contest yet were ultimately left frustrated by Bernd Storck's charges. Benfica coach João Tralhão said: "Olympiacos are a very competitive team, one of the best in the group. Like in the other matches, we were superior."  

RSC Anderlecht 0-1 Paris Saint Germain FC *
PSG earned the first win of the campaign as Kingsley Coman got the only goal of the game to defeat the Belgian side, who played for the majority of the match with ten men. The hosts started on the front foot but a surprising counter stretched the home side and captain Leander Dendoncker handled in his own area to allow Coman to score from the spot 20 minutes in. Just four minutes later Anderlecht suffered another blow as Mohamed Soumaré saw red after a clash with Presnel Kimpembe. Salif Sanogo and Souleyman Doumbia were both denied by Xavier Gies in the home goal but PSG still managed come away with the points. 

Group D
PFC CSKA Moskva 1-1 Manchester City FC
Despite five of CSKA's players being on duty with Russia at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Army Men pretty much matched City, creating a number of good chances in the first half. The away side took control after the break, with Devante Cole putting them in front from an excellent Ashley Smith-Brown ball on 73 minutes. However, Ruslan Gordienko replied seven minutes later to earn a share of the spoils. "We made some mistakes but we will look back at these and work on them," said CSKA coach Aleksandr Grishin. "The battle continues and we are neck and neck with Manchester City to top the group."

FC Bayern München 4-0 FC Viktoria Plzeň
Bayern responded to their 6-0 loss in Manchester on matchday two by meting out a heavy defeat of their own on point-less Plzeň. The German team were three to the good by half-time through an Oliver Markoutz strike and two goals from Marco Hingerl, although they did not add to their lot until Daniel Hägler converted a penalty a minute from time, by which point Plzeň were a man light following the dismissal of Jiří Piroch. "We are very satisfied with our first víctory," said Bayern coach Marc Kienle. "We had very strong opponents in our first two games, which we lost. Today we played well, scored some nice goals and deserved the win."

Group F
Arsenal FC 0-0 Borussia Dortmund
Arsenal's Chuba Akpom had a first-half penalty saved by Steffen Göcke and then was sent off in added time for a second bookable offence. Though their perfect record is no more, the Gunners remain three points clear of their opponents at the top of the section heading into the reverse fixture on 6 November.
