Chelsea and six-goal Barcelona march on

FC Steaua Bucureşti 1-1 FC Basel 1893
Goalkeepers Valentin Cojocaru and Christian Baldinger impressed in an open contest, one that ended with both sides collecting their first point of the campaign. Albian Ajeti fired the visitors ahead with a shot from inside the penalty area, but Alexandru Târnovan responded in similar fashion eight minutes into the second half. Trailing second-placed Schalke by five points, Steaua and Basel require a victory in the return fixture on 6 November to haul themselves back into contention.

FC Schalke 04 0-2 Chelsea FC
Chelsea made it three wins from three thanks to a 73rd-minute penalty from Lewis Baker and a late goal by Nathan Aké. The Royal Blues were punished for their failure to take a number of first-half chances when Baker, after Sebastian Starke Hedlund felled Fankaty Dabo, converted from the spot. A quarter of an hour later, Janik Schilder could not hold Baker's corner and Aké poked in the loose ball. "Schalke pressed us well at the beginning," Chelsea coach Dermot Drummy told UEFA.com. "We usually don't drop that deep, but credit to Schalke. We had to change our game at half-time, to win more second balls, and we did that."

Olympique de Marseille 2-1 SSC Napoli
OM defied the odds to earn their first victory and draw level with the Italian selection on three points. Down to nine men, Marseille scored twice in the last eight minutes through captain Gabriel Dubois and Fode Guirassy, the former's goal preceding the dismissal of Napoli's Armando Anastasio. The Partenopei had forged ahead courtesy of Luca Palmiero's early opener and seemed certain to leave victorious when Michel Araai (38) followed Jeremy Roland (27) down the tunnel following his second yellow card.   

Group G
FK Austria Wien 3-3 Club Atlético de Madrid
The visitors fought back from 3-1 down to salvage a hard-earned point in Vienna. Valentin Grubeck's deft lob after eight minutes was wiped out by Sergi, before quickfire strikes from Benjamin Koglbauer and Peter Michorl put Austria in the ascendancy. More drama was to come after the interval, though, as Sandro Widni put through his own net and Roberto Nuñez levelled in added time.

FC Porto 2-2 FC Zenit
Luís Rafael gave Porto the ideal start with a ninth-minute free-kick and though Zenit tried to up the tempo, Porto remained in charge and doubled their advantage as André Silva applied the finishing touch to a splendid move for his third goal of the campaign. Yet while the hosts twice hit the woodowork after half-time, Zenit were next to find the back of the net through Pavel Osipov. It proved a turning point, with the Russian side claiming a dramatic equaliser courtesy of Ilya Kubyshkin's 95th-minute free-kick. "Although I'm happy with how my players performed, I'm unhappy with the result," said Porto coach Capucho.

AC Milan 2-6 FC Barcelona
Milan, who like Barcelona had six points from six, succumbed to the brilliance of two-goal forwards Munir El Haddadi and Toni Sanabria. Having reduced their deficit to 3-2 through Bryan Cristante early in the second period, the Rossoneri conceded three times in the last 18 minutes, Maxi Rolón capping an emphatic win with an eye-catching finish in added time. "We played well for an hour but after their fourth goal our heads dropped," said home coach Filippo Inzaghi. "We have to improve and we have to look forward. We were up against the best team in Europe."

Celtic FC 4-1 AFC Ajax
Celtic registered their first points while condemning their opponents to a third straight defeat. Joseph Thomson opened the scoring with the first of three goals in 11 first-half minutes, shooting under Xavier Mous after Eoghan O'Connell had dribbled beyond three Ajax players. Jamie Lindsay extended the lead with a shot from a tight angle, before a clearance from Damian van Bruggen was blocked by Liam Henderson and flew into the net. An own goal by Celtic captain Stuart Findlay cut the visitors' arrears, only for Lewis Kidd to restore the three-goal cushion with a 66th-minute spot kick.
