Defeated by Club Atlético de Madrid in last season's UEFA Super Cup, Chelsea FC will be out to make amends when they face FC Bayern München in the 2013 edition on Friday.
Serbian international Branislav Ivanović says the 4-1 reverse in Monaco still rankles the Chelsea players and will provide them with added motivation as they seek to overcome the UEFA Champions League holders at Prague's Stadion Eden.
"We're taking this game very seriously," Ivanović told UEFA.com. "We didn't manage to win this trophy in 2012, so it's good to have another chance. We will be really motivated and will do everything we can to win. We're going to play it like a final."
The defender was full of praise for the German titleholders but insisted that Chelsea, who followed up their 2012 UEFA Champions League success by winning the UEFA Europa League last season, would not be overwhelmed in the Czech Republic.
"Bayern had an amazing season," said Ivanović. "They play great football and they definitely deserved to win the Champions League, but winning both competitions in two years shows the quality of this [Chelsea] team and bodes well for the future."
The return of José Mourinho, who guided the Blues to two English Premier League titles during his first spell in west London, has provided a further boost to morale at Stamford Bridge, according to the 29-year-old. "It's the best thing that could have happened to our club this summer," he said. "For us as a team, it's amazing. There's a positive atmosphere around the club."
Yet Ivanović concedes that the Blues cannot rest on their laurels ahead of the new campaign, saying: "We worked very hard in pre-season, but now we need show what we are capable of on the pitch."
