Guardiola praises Bayern, Mourinho disappointed

First of all thanks to Jupp Heynckes for offering me the opportunity to be here tonight. It was his work that got us here – this title is dedicated to him. It was an incredible match in extra time and the penalty shoot-out. It was an incredible final regardless of the outcome. We won and we are happy. We had lots of chances and were very good in attack both in narrow areas and out wide. The personality of our players is credible. I know now why they won everything last season, they have a strong personality and character. I'm very happy for them.

Javi Martínez is very important for us. I think it was incredible that Bayern purchased this player. He's not fully fit yet. He made a great effort and he has a great will and determination but he played well in defensive midfield and we absolutely need him, we need him a lot. In the end he added to his injury which was bad for him but the doctors will come up with a good solution to this problem.

The best team won today. We had lots of chances to score because we attacked well. Chelsea are difficult to play against as they have a lot of experience with the likes of Petr Čech, [Ashley] Cole, [John] Terry, Ramires and [Frank] Lampard. They have all played in numerous finals and are experienced, seasoned players. The fact that we were able to create so many chances shows the quality we have and why we deserved to win.

All my players were good. Toni Kroos is an exceptional player and he could play anywhere the world. [Philipp] Lahm is the most intelligent player I have ever coached in my career. The challenge to train him makes me happy to be here. Lahm is on another level. I am happy with all of them, not just one or two. To beat Chelsea and [José] Mourinho is always so difficult.

They take the cup and the best team lost. There were 15 minutes in the second half where they dominated us but we always had the game under control. Even with ten men we played fantastically. Pride is OK but we lost. We play for a long time with ten men against a very good team. You could say it was unlucky, you could say it was a mistake – I don't know. If football is a little bit fairer, you win the game. The team that deserved to win more lost, but that's football; the best team does not always win. However, it's acceptable because that's football.

Football is 11 players against 11; when it's 11 against ten then it's harder for the team with ten and easier for the team with 11. I have experience of playing with ten men in UEFA matches so I could react and coach my players in a way where even with ten men, and ten tired men, we could compete and find opportunities to score. At the end, every one of my players was tired, they gave absolutely everything. 

When [Eden] Hazard scored there were still 27 minutes to play and 27 minutes in extra time with ten men is an eternity. It's very difficult to play with ten men. When Martinez scored I thought it was undeserved but that's football, so it's not a problem.
