Zanetti ready to go again

Captain Javier Zanetti insisted FC Internazionale Milano would quickly put their 2-0 UEFA Super Cup defeat by Club Atlético de Madrid behind them as he looked ahead to the start of the new season.

Fifteen years to the day since the Nerazzurri stalwart made his debut for Inter, Zanetti was forced to reflect on a night of disappointment after second-half goals from José Antonio Reyes and Sergio Agüero ensured his 702nd match for the club ended in defeat.

"First we have to give credit to Atlético, who had a great game," the 37-year-old told UEFA.com. "It was very balanced and I think we both knew that whoever scored first would probably go on to lift the trophy. We had no space in attack because Atlético defended very well and they have quick attackers who are very dangerous on the break."

Zanetti nonetheless insisted that Inter would not dwell on defeat. "We can forget about this game; we left the pitch with our heads up and we can start thinking about Monday, when Serie A starts. After that, the Champions League starts and we are in a difficult group with a few dangerous sides. We just hope to get to the first game in the best possible shape."

A last-minute penalty miss from Diego Milito, scorer of both goals in the UEFA Champions League win against FC Bayern München in May, summed up Inter's evening. Midfielder Dejan Stanković insisted that last season's treble winners' appetite for silverware is undiminished, however.

"We have won a lot of trophies but we are still hungry for more," he told UEFA.com. "Only five days ago, we won the Italian Super Cup. If we had added this trophy we would have closed the summer cycle and could have started the Serie A season calmly. We're a very strong team, though, as we've proved in the past. Certainly this defeat hurts, but the sooner we react the better it is for us."
