FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué will miss the UEFA Super Cup having been ruled out for three weeks with a calf injury.
Piqué, 24, played 45 minutes of Monday's 5-0 friendly win against SSC Napoli, but suffered a tear to his left calf during a subsequent training session. He will therefore miss Friday's showpiece fixture against FC Porto in Monaco. With Carles Puyol already doubtful for the game following knee surgery, Josep Guardiola will be forced to seek alternatives for the heart of defence.
The reigning European champions will discover who they will begin their title defence against when the group stage draw is made on Thursday. Piqué will hope to be fit before their campaign commences on 13/14 September.
