Real Madrid 2-1 Manchester United
(Casemiro 24, Isco 52; Lukaku 62)
Real Madrid became the first team to win successive UEFA Super Cups since AC Milan in 1990 by seeing off a spirited Manchester United side in FYR Macedonia.
The UEFA Champions League holders were quickly into their stride in Skopje and almost made the breakthrough when Casemiro's header thumped against the bar from a Toni Kroos corner. The Brazilian would not be denied for long, though, as he darted onto Dani Carvajal's cross to expertly sweep in the opener – the 66th consecutive game in which Real Madrid had scored.
José Mourinho's UEFA Europa League winners could not stem the tide after the restart and man of the match Isco added the Merengues' second, playing a one-two with Gareth Bale before slotting calmly past David de Gea. Bale then crashed an effort off the bar before United's summer signing Romelu Lukaku fired in a debut goal after Keylor Navas had spilled Nemanja Matić's drive.
The Costa Rican goalkeeper made a telling save to deny substitute Marcus Rashford an equaliser while his opposite number De Gea ensured United remained in contention until the end with a fine stop from Marco Asensio. But Zinédine Zidane's men would not be denied a fourth UEFA Super Cup, leaving them just one shy of the record shared by Milan and Barcelona.
