What the coaches say
Kasper Hjulmand, Demark coach: "After some hectic days, we have assembled the squad. These are very important battles for us. The Belgium game could be like a final, but that’s the case with Iceland first. I have great respect for Iceland. It's about the personality and identity of the Icelandic players. That makes it a very difficult match. Iceland did not qualify for the European Championships, and [Erik] Hamrén has just announced that he will step down. And I think it could be the last dance for more of the Icelandic players."
Erik Hamrén, Iceland coach: "Two games left this year, two important games against Denmark and England. I will then step down as Iceland coach. When I took the job, I thought I could take the team to the European Championships. I did that with the Swedes and wanted to go with Iceland. That was my goal. We came close, very close. We were at the EURO with five minutes left in the game against Hungary."
