The UEFA Futsal Cup finals return to Spain today for the first time since the inaugural four-team event in Murcia five years ago as FC Barcelona host the showpiece at Lleida's Pavelló Barris Nord.
Barcelona, hoping to become the third different Spanish club to win the 11-year-old event, are in action in the second of Friday's semi-finals against last season's runners-up Sporting Clube de Portugal. A capacity 5,000 crowd is expected for kick-off at 21.00CET.
A year ago, ASD Città di Montesilvano C/5 beat Sporting in Almaty to take the trophy to Italy for the first time on their debut campaign, but the holders were ousted in the elite round by compatriots Marca Futsal – like Barcelona, making a European bow this season. At 18.30CET Marca take on the only one of the four finalists to have lifted this trophy before, MFK Dinamo Moskva. They triumphed in Murcia in 2007 having lost the two previous finals in the home-and-away format.
UEFA.com has previews of both the Marca-Dinamo and Barcelona-Sporting semi-finals, plus interviews with Dinamo pivot Cirilo, Barcelona's experienced Javi Rodríguez, Sporting goalkeeper João Benedito and coach Orlando Duarte. We also spoke to David Villa and Xavi Hernández. Our club pages have the lowdown on all four contenders, and the finals section has everything you need to know about the Lleida event, plus exclusive photos.
