Always on top
The Ukrainian team dominated the Group 2 mini-tournament, held in Rovaniemi, Finland, conceding just two goals in their three victories. The competition got under way on Friday with a match between AGBU Ararat-Nicosia FC of Cyprus and Zarea Balti of Moldova, which the latter side edged 1-0.
Twelve goals
That was followed by Shakthar’s first game, and they did not take long to state their intent winning 12-0 against host side PT Kemi Tornio. That set the tone for their next game, which saw them triumph 20-0 against Ararat.
Group decider
Zarea followed that with a 9-1 victory against Tornio, setting up a group decider with Shakhtar on Thursday. With both sides having two wins from two, a victory would send either side through. The match was a one-sided affair though with Shakhtar triumphing 8-2 to clinch top spot. Tornio recovered some pride in the last fixture of the mini-tournament, earning a point from a 2-2 draw with Ararat.
