Valencia bring in Mathieu from Toulouse

Valencia CF have announced the capture of French full-back Jérémy Mathieu from Toulouse FC on a free transfer with Los Ché expected to complete the signing of the 25-year-old on 1 July.

Speaking shortly after the final details of a three-year contract had been agreed with the player, Valencia's sporting director Fernando Gómez said: "[Mathieu] is the type of player that meets the characteristics that both myself and the coach [Unai Emery] are looking for. He has a strong defensive presence and can easily get up and down the wings." The former FC Sochaux-Montbéliard defender scored five goals in 112 league appearances for Toulouse who, like Valencia, will enter the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
