What do you need to know?

Last season, Atlético Madrid eliminated Man United before losing to Man City in successive rounds of the UEFA Champions League. This season, the Red Devils will be eager to improve on that as they line up against Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals, having accounted for their neighbours Real Betis in the round of 16.

Sevilla have had the edge in previous encounters: they beat United 2-1 on aggregate in the 2017/18 Champions League round of 16, and by the same scoreline in the one-legged 2019/20 Europa League semi-finals. However, with Marcus Rashford on top form, United can feel confident, while shaky Sevilla recently parted company with coach Jorge Sampaoli.

Back-to-back Old Trafford Premier League wins have re-energised United after their disappointing defeat at Newcastle and they will have positive momentum against Seville. The only cloud is an injury to leading goalscorer Marcus Rashford, who has found the net six times in the Europa League this campaign. However, striker Anthony Martial, who scored on his return against Everton, is fit again, as is playmaker Christian Eriksen after a long lay-off.

The fact domestic safety is the current priority shows how Sevilla's fortunes have shifted this season. Indeed, since their narrow last-16 win over Galatasaray, the club have appointed José Luis Mendilibar as their third coach of the campaign.
This will actually be the first Europa League match in the long coaching career of the 62-year-old, who since taking charge of the six-time winners has helped ease their relegation worries in La Liga by taking four points from games against Cádiz and Celta. [United] should be seen as favourites, but we have injured players to come back who will make us more competitive, and we have to be optimistic. When a team has won six Europa Leagues in the last 20 years, they have shown they can get through difficult spells and tough matches."

José Luis Mendilibar, Sevilla coach: "I never do the maths. I know we have to play Manchester United, Valencia and Manchester United again. I am not looking any further ahead than that because anything beyond that is miles away, and if we drop the ball, those games aren't even worth thinking of."
