FK Crvena Zvezda 3-0 FC Kairat Almaty (Crvena Zvezda win 5-0 on aggregate)
Double strike
Ivan Gvozdenovic scored Zvezda's first goal on 19 minutes, giving the nod to a cross from Mihajlo Pjanovic. And, after Kairat keeper Yevgeniy Naboychenko had done well to keep out a Nemanja Vidic header, Pjanovic slotted in the rebound to make it 2-0 moments before half-time.
'The right time'
Leading 2-0 from the first leg in Kazakhstan, Radovan Krivokapic rounded off the scoring with a clever lob on 73 minutes. Afterwards, the Zvezda coach, Zoran Filipovic, admitted the win had been "nothing less than expected". "We scored at the right time and went on to seal the win," he said.
A new beginning
Meanwhile, Zlatko Krmpotic, coach of competition debutants Kairat, said: "We were beaten by a much better team and therefore I am not sorry. My players seemed frightened by the atmosphere here in Belgrade. But this was a great beginning for Kazak football and I hope results will improve."
