Servette FC 3-0 FC Spartak Yerevan (Servette win 5-0 on aggregate)
A resounding home victory ensured Servette FC progressed to the UEFA Cup first round at the expense of Armenian club FC Spartak Yerevan tonight.
Diogo double
Having won the first leg 2-0, Servette, who made the last sixteen last season, eased to victory with two goals from Paolo Diogo and a
further effort from Alexander Frei.
Mieville miss
Spartak failed to get their passing game off the ground and allowed their hosts to gain control of the game. The Swiss side should have gone ahead on the night 31 minutes into the tie when Yves Mieville found himself in space but he fired wide from just a few metres out.
Deadlock broken
Diogo broke the deadlock by scoring twice in seven minutes before half-time, first latching on to Frei’s deflected free-kick to score before doubling his tally with a tremendous free-kick of his own. Frei’s goal on 75 minutes was the only significant action of the second half as the Swiss side took their foot of the pedal.
