Draw details
Celtic and Porto are at home in the first legs on 10 April, ahead of the return matches on 24 April. According to the format of the draw, Porto - whose name was drawn after Lazio's - should have played their first leg in Rome but the tie was switched to avoid both second legs taking place in Porto on the same night.
Celtic landmark
In facing Boavista, Celtic, conquerors of Liverpool FC 3-1 on aggregate last night, will be taking part in their first European semi-final since 1974 and hoping to lift their first European trophy since their 1967 European Champions Clubs' Cup success. Boavista, who have never won a European trophy, overcame Málaga CF 4-1 on penalties in their quarter-final after an 83nd-minute goal from Luiz Cláudio cancelled out the Spanish side's 1-0 first-leg lead.
Porto and Lazio wins
Porto, champions of Europe in 1987, secured a memorable away success to guarantee their place in the last four by defeating Panathinaikos FC 2-0 after extra time to overturn a 1-0 deficit from last week's home leg. Finally, Lazio, runners-up in the 1998 UEFA Cup final and winners of the 1999 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, made light work of their quarter-final visit to Istanbul, defeating Besiktas JK 2-1 to secure a 3-1 aggregate success.
New name on the trophy
None of the four remaining sides in the competition have ever won the UEFA Cup, and no Portuguese side has ever lifted the trophy either, so the 32nd UEFA Cup final, on 21 May at the Estadio Olímpico in Seville, will see a new name on European football's second most prestigious club trophy. The winner of the first semi-final will be the nominal 'home' side in Seville.
