Hrman right for Spartak

FC Spartak Moskva have reinforced their defence by signing Croatian Danijel Hrman from NK Varteks.

Help needed
The Russian cup holders will hope the 27-year-old Hrman can add some steel to a backline that has suffered in the Premier-Liga this season. Spartak are also looking to mount a serious challenge in the forthcoming UEFA Cup, and will join the competition in the first round. Varteks also have UEFA Cup ambitions, but must first overcome a qualifying round tie with Estonians FC Levadia Maardu next month.

International hope
"I am really looking forward to playing for the famous and biggest Russian club Spartak," said Hrman, who has signed a two-and-a-half year contract. "Also, I am hoping that this move will help me to secure my place in the Croatian national team." Hrman, who has three caps, was involved in the squad for Croatia's UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifier against Estonia last month but did not play in the 1-0 victory.

Stanic arrival
Spartak, who are 12th in the 16-team top flight in Russia, have also signed Srdzan Stanic, a a 21-year-old midfield player from Serbo-Montenegrin side OFK Belgrade. A regular for his country's Under-21 side, he scored three goals in 29 domestic games last season.
