Chernyshov to leave Spartak

FC Spartak Moskva have officially announced the sacking of head coach Andrei Chernyshov and his assistant, Sergei Yuran, this afternoon and the appointment of Vladimir Fedotov as interim coach.

"Firstly, the head coach could not come to a full understanding with the club's players, which affected the results," said a statement on the official Spartak website. "Also, it was hard for Mr Chernyshov to be head coach of two teams. The latest results of the [Russia] Under-21 side had their effect on Mr Chernyshov."

Romantsev replacement
Chernyshov took over as coach from Oleg Romantsev halfway through the Russian season and Spartak have since remained in the bottom half of the table. They are currently eleventh with 28 points from 23 games.

Fedotov promoted
Cheryshov, who will stay in his post as Russia's Under-21 coach, will be replaced until the end of the season by the 60-year-old Fedotov, the only member of Romantsev's staff to have stayed at the club after the former coach's departure in the summer.

Previous jobs
Fedotov has previously coached FC SKA Rostov-Na-Donu, with whom he won the USSR Cup in 1981, FC Asmaral Moskva, FC Spartak Vladikavkaz and FC Chernomorets Novorossiysk among others. He has also coached in Bahrain and served as an assistant coach for the USSR national and Olympic teams.
