Transfer cancelled
The Swiss international forward left the club earlier this summer to join Paris Saint-Germain FC, but the French side then cancelled his contract after Yakin underwent groin surgery against the club's wishes.
Eligibility unclear
Although Yakin did not play a single competitive game for PSG, it is uncertain whether he will be eligible for Basel's UEFA Cup first-round tie against Turkish Super League side Malatyaspor.
September return
Yakin, who is almost certain to miss Switzerland's crucial UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifier against Russia in Moscow on 10 September, is likely to return from his groin injury in mid-September.
