Daugaard dashes Žižkov hopes

FK Viktoria Žižkov 0-1 Brøndby IF (agg: 0-2) Kim Daugaard's header eases Brøndby through.

A late header from Kim Daugaard ensured Brøndby IF strolled into Friday's UEFA Cup second round draw with a 1-0 win against FK Viktoria Žižkov in Prague.

Centenary ruined
The Danish side, who travelled to the Czech Republic a goal to the good from the first leg three weeks ago, were rarely troubled at the back but it took Brøndby 88 minutes of a disappointing spectacle to find the net themselves and ruin Žižkov's centenary celebrations.

Bearded team
In the club's 100-year history there are few superstitions as bizarre as the current crop of Žižkov players' refusal to shave until they end their winless run, which has stretched to seven league games. Eleven bearded players began the game for the home side - but they failed to add to their tally of just one goal in five games.

Chihuri chip
Struggling to get going in the absence of their injured captain Ales Pikl, the best Žižkov chances came in the last ten minutes. Tomás Oravec shot wide after Kennedy Chihuri's smart chip had released him on 80 minutes and moments later Chihuri himself had a chance, but despite knocking the ball past Brøndby's Moroccan goalkeeper Karim Zaza - who has now not conceded a goal in six hours of UEFA Cup football - defender Thomas Kallenberg scooted around to clear the ball off the line. The stage was then set for Daugaard to seal the Danes' aggregate victory.
