Cost-cutting measures
"We have come to an agreement with all the players after individual talks," said Michael Meier, Borussia's general manager. Dortmund's defeat by Club Brugge KV in the Champions League third qualifying round left them facing a €12m deficit and prompted coach Matthias Sammer to propose that playing staff be included in any cost-cutting measures.
'Appreciation and respect'
Meier thanked the Dortmund players yesterday for their "appreciation and respect" in agreeing to the cut. They play their opening match in the UEFA Cup tomorrow away to Austrian champions FK Austria Wien.
