Addo injury deflates Dortmund

BV Borussia Dortmund have lost Otto Addo for several weeks with a knee injury suffered against FK Austria Wien.

New worry
The Ghanaian international has been blighted by injury during his career, having twice suffered serious cruciate ligament damage to his right knee. It had been thought he had sustained a similar problem after being substituted soon after scoring the opening goal in last night's 2-1 first-leg victory against FK Austria Wien in the UEFA Cup first round.

Scan carried out
With widespread concern that the player may be forced to retire, Dr Hans-Jürgen Eichhorn carried out tests on Addo in Straubing today. However, a scan has revealed only slight ligament damage and Addo should make a full recovery. He will have to wear a special splint for several weeks before another assessment is made.

More concern
Addo's team-mate Dede also hurt his knee in the match and the Brazilian winger will have tests at the Grönemeyer Institute in Bochum tomorrow to ascertain his condition. Tomáš Rosický, meanwhile, faces three weeks out after having his appendix removed this week, meaning coach Matthias Sammer is currently without a dozen of his first-team squad.
