Feyenoord lead high five

Goor goals
The 2002 winners Feyenoord consolidated their second place in the Dutch Eredivisie with a 4-0 home victory against RKC Waalwijk, just three days after starting their group-stage campaign with a 3-0 success against Hearts at De Kuip. Bart Goor (2) and Dirk Kuijt were again on target along with Romeo Castelen. There was also another encouraging display from 17-year-old right-back Gianni Zuiverloon, while on the left Patrick Mtiliga was given a chance as Bruno Basto was rested. However, Feyenoord were still without defender Ramon van Haaren, winger Leonardo and midfielder Sebastián Pardo.

Brazilian double
Schalke followed up their 1-1 home draw with Basel by winning 2-1 at home to 1. FSV Mainz 05 three days later. Goals in each half from Brazilians Lincoln and Ailton did the trick for the UEFA Intertoto Cup winners and the three points moved Schalke up to sixth in the Bundesliga, level on points with fifth-placed Mainz. The German side still have injury worries over Jörg Böhme and Fabian Lamotte.

Goalkeeper on target
Ferencváros, who sat out Matchday 1, continued their dominance of the Hungarian First Division with a 5-0 home win against Pápa TFC on the following Saturday. Former international striker Thomas Sowunmi, Gábor Gyepes and Macedonian forward Aleksandar Bajevski, with two goals, put Ferencváros in a commanding position before goalkeeper Lajos Szücs scored his second of the season from the penalty spot.

Stamp setback
Three days after a 3-0 defeat at Feyenoord to open the group stage, Hearts bounced back with a 2-1 home victory in the Edinburgh derby against Hibernian FC. Patrick Kisnorbo and Joseph Hamill scored for the Scottish club with Ramón Pereira particularly impressing after coming off the bench. English midfielder Phil Stamp also returned after a virus but then had to be substituted at half-time with a calf problem. Pereira and Stamp had missed out against Feyenoord along with Mark de Vries, who faces another fortnight out with a toe injury.

Delgado worry
Basel had concerns over Matías Delgado, who scored with a free-kick in the 1-1 draw at Schalke on Matchday 1, after a 3-1 victory in the Swiss Cup three days later. The Argentinian midfielder sustained an ankle injury against FC Meyrin. The Swiss league leaders needed two late goals from Delgado's compatriot, substitute forward Christian Giménez, to make sure of a place in the quarter-finals.
