Article body
Alkmaar
Top of the section, Alkmaar consolidated second place in the Dutch Eredivisie with a 5-0 home win against FC Twente on Saturday. Kenneth Perez scored twice to complement strikes from Martijn Meerdink, Danny Landzaat and a Karim Touzani own goal. For the Matchday 5 trip to Grazer AK, midfielder Meerdink is a doubt after suffering an ankle injury and could join Juha Reini (achilles) on the sidelines. But goalkeeper Henk Timmer continues to play with a broken foot which could be operated on during the winter break.
Rangers
Saturday's 3-0 home success against Dundee FC marked Alex McLeish's third anniversary as Rangers manager. Nacho Novo with a penalty, Dado Pršo and Robert Malcolm scored the goals. Jean-Alain Boumsong, who is struggling with a leg injury, was not risked ahead of the match against his former club Auxerre. On the plus side, full-back Grégory Vignal returned from a groin problem; there was a rare start for midfielder Dragan Mladenovic; and midfielder Alex Rae appeared as a second-half substitute. The Scottish side need at least a point on Matchday 5 to progress from Group F, while three would cement their current second place.
Auxerre
Ahead of their concluding group game at Rangers, Auxerre had the tonic of a 1-0 away victory against Olympique de Marseille on 11 December. Benjani Mwaruwari's 62nd-minute free-kick took them into fourth position in France's Ligue 1. Playmaker Yann Lachuer missed the match with an ankle injury and may join defenders Younes Kaboul (ankle), Johan Radet (knee) and midfielder Lionel Mathis (knee) in the stands in Glasgow. However, captain Philippe Violeau will soldier on despite a broken nose sustained against KS Amica Wronki.
GAK
Grazer AK won for the first time in four Austrian Bundesliga games on 8 December - 5-2 at home against VfB Admira Wacker Mödling - to end their autumn campaign in style. None the less, the title-holders remain nine points off the lead, in fourth spot. Midfielder Daniel Pirker was sidelined by injury, while the other three missing players - captain Anton Ehmann, Gernot Sick and René Aufhauser - were suspended. GAK lie fourth in Group F going into their final match against Alkmaar on 15 December.
Amica
Bottom in the section, with no points from four outings, Polish club Amica have finished their fixtures and are effectively out of the competition.
