SS Lazio must do without Brazilian international Ederson for the rest of the season after the midfielder succumbed to a serious thigh injury during Sunday's 3-2 win at Udinese Calcio.
The 28-year-old former Olympique Lyonnais player, who featured in five of the Biancocelesti's UEFA Europa League Group J games, has been forced to undergo surgery after a scan revealed detached tendons in his right thigh. "It will be a long lay-off, about five or six months. This will be major surgery," confirmed the Rome club's doctor Roberto Bianchini.
Edoardo Reja's side – currently ninth in Serie A – host PFC Ludogorets Razgrad in their UEFA Europa League round of 32 opener on 20 February, with the second leg scheduled for a week later.
