Hopes fading for AZ, Lyon and Valencia

The four survivors that transferred from the UEFA Champions League group stage all won the first legs of their UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, but there is plenty left to fight for as the ties conclude.

The draws for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League semi-finals will take place in Nyon on Friday 11 April, from 12.00CET.

Sevilla FC v FC Porto (first leg: 0-1)
• Eliaquim Mangala's goal separates the two two-time winners though the late dismissal of Fernando somewhat marred Porto's home victory. Porto have lost their last three games in Spain, failing to score in the most recent two – both in 2013.

• Sevilla's Kevin Gameiro and Valencia's Paco Alcácer are the top-scoring players left in the competition, with four goals each since the start of the group stage – four fewer than the overall leading marksman, FC Salzburg's Jonatan Soriano. Sevilla have had the most shots on (60) and off target (60) of any of the remaining sides.

Juventus v Olympique Lyonnais (first leg: 1-0)
• Juventus somewhat spoiled Lyon coach Remi Garde's 48th birthday in the first leg, Leonardo Bonucci getting the only goal on 85 minutes after the hosts failed to properly clear a corner. It was Lyon's first European home defeat this term and, even more worryingly, Juventus are yet to lose in ten home matches against French teams (W8 D2).

• Lyon are the first Ligue 1 outfit to reach the last eight since the advent of the UEFA Europa League. They have not been a high-scoring side this season: in 15 European games since kicking off in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, they have notched just 14 goals, conceding 11.

Valencia CF v FC Basel 1893 (first leg: 0-3)
• Valencia surprisingly lost 3-0 to Basel in Switzerland. No team has overturned a three-goal deficit to win a tie in this competition since the UEFA Europa League's launch, though Valencia can take heart from their result at this stage of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League when they recovered from a 2-1 defeat at AZ Alkmaar to win the return 4-0.

• Basel are unbeaten in their five matches (W3 D2) since transferring from the UEFA Champions League. They have not lost a European fixture by a margin of more than three goals in 17 games, since a 7-0 thrashing by FC Bayern München in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League round of 16.

SL Benfica v AZ Alkmaar (first leg: 1-0)
• Benfica are undefeated in 11 European home matches (W9 D2) since a 2-0 reverse to FC Barcelona in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League group phase. Benfica's Eduardo Salvio has made a record 38 UEFA Europa League appearances since the tournament took on its current format; his first-leg strike allowed Benfica to join PSV Eindhoven on 64 goals as the highest-scoring clubs in the new competition.

• AZ are unbeaten in six away fixtures in Europe this campaign (W3 D3), yet have averaged just one goal a game on the road since the beginning of the group stage. Along with Basel and Lyon, AZ are one of three quarter-finalists yet to lift a major UEFA trophy.
