Europa League group stage by numbers

UEFA.com takes its pick of the key statistics to emerge from the 144 UEFA Europa League group matches, featuring BSC Young Boys' misfortune, joy for FC Viktoria Plzeň and a Taison wonder goal.

4 – VfB Stuttgart became only the second team to register four first-half goals in the UEFA Europa League when they won 5-1 at FC Steaua Bucureşti on matchday five.

7 – SSC Napoli's Edinson Cavani missed matchday one and failed to score after coming on as a half-time substitute next time out but has been unstoppable since, his tournament-leading seven goals including all four in a 4-2 win at home to FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

10 – Liverpool FC, FC Anji Makhachkala and BSC Young Boys all finished on ten points in Group A, only the third time that has happened in a UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup group stage. When it previously happened, in 2004/05 and 2005/06, the format meant that the top three all went through – this time, YB missed out on head-to-head record.

12 – Olympique de Marseille's 5-1 win against AEL Limassol FC coupled with Fenerbahçe SK's 4-2 triumph at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach meant there were 12 goals in Group C on matchday two, equalling the record for most goals in a group on a single UEFA Europa League matchday.

13 – SK Rapid Wien overtook AEK Athens FC as the team with the most UEFA Europa League defeats on matchday five (13), in the process matching PFC CSKA Sofia's record of eight successive losses in the competition. They finished their campaign on a high, however, beating FC Metalist Kharkiv.

16 – A. Académica de Coimbra claimed their first European victory since 1969 on matchday four, in the process ending Club Atlético de Madrid's record run of 16 straight wins in UEFA competition.

24 – Metalist's meeting with Rosenborg BK was four minutes old when Taison speared an incredible first-time volley from the acutest of angles into the top corner. "The goal of the century," mused Rosenborg's Bořek Dočkal, while Dutch paper Telegraaf conceded that Marco van Basten's famous goal 24 years earlier, in the 1988 UEFA European Championship final, may have finally been equalled.

37 – At 37 years and 214 days, Pavel Horváth of Plzeň extended his own mark as the UEFA Europa League's oldest goalscorer with his matchday five penalty against Académica.

42 – On matchday five, FC Twente's Sander Boschker, aged 42 years and 33 days, replaced David Weir as the oldest player to appear in the UEFA Europa League.

49 – Plzeň boss Pavel Vrba turned 49 on matchday six, and marked the occasion by overseeing a rousing 1-0 against Atlético that lifted his side above the holders at the Group B summit. It was an improvement on his 48th birthday, when he had to settle for a 2-2 draw with AC Milan.

516 – Liverpool made 516 more passes than Udinese on matchday two – 757 to the visitors' 241 – but still lost 3-2 at Anfield.

2,000 – Cavani's late winner for Napoli at AIK on matchday five was the UEFA Europa League's 2,000th goal.
