Matchday six review
Liverpool knew victory at Udinese Calcio would put them through, but also that any slip-up could let in BSC Young Boys, who were playing already qualified FC Anji Makhachkala. Jordan Henderson's goal was enough for Liverpool, and it turned out to be a vital strike with Young Boys winning 3-1 at home.

Another English club, Tottenham Hotspur, had to avoid defeat at home to direct rivals Panathinaikos FC to claim the second qualifying spot from Group J. The Greek team were given a second-half lifeline when Zeca made it 1-1, but Spurs stepped up a gear and ran out 3-1 winners to go through.

The only section where both qualifying spots were still available was Group E. Steaua were already on the brink, and although they went down to ten men, a 1-1 draw at FC København helped them finish top. Those were two dropped points that cost FCK dear after Stuttgart lost at home to bottom-placed Molde FK, the German side pipping the Danish team on head-to-head record.

The last qualification berth was taken by Basel. They needed just a point at KRC Genk to stave off the challenge of Videoton FC. Basel secured the draw they required while the Hungarian club's game at Sporting Clube de Portugal was postponed after heavy rain waterlogged the José Alvalade pitch.

Elsewhere, there were several head-to-head ties to decide who would win their pool. FC Bordeaux de Bordeaux got the better of Newcastle United FC to finish at the Group D summit, while FC Viktoria Plzeň beat holders Club Atlético de Madrid to overtake them in Group B. Hannover 96 stayed top of Group L after a 2-2 draw with Levante UD.

Draw procedure
There will be two pots for the round of 32 draw: the 12 group winners and the four best third-ranked teams in the UEFA Champions League group stage will be drawn against the 12 group runners-up and the remaining third-placed UEFA Champions League sides. In the games on 14 and 21 February, no team can play a club from their group or a side from the same association. The draw for the round of 16 will take place on the same day.
