SC Heerenveen have signed UEFA European Under-21 Championship-winning forward Roy Beerens, who leaves PSV Eindhoven on a three-year deal.
Time for a change
The 19-year-old had 12 months left on his PSV contract, but having spent the second half of the 2006/07 season on loan at NEC Nijmegen, has opted for a permanent move away from Eindhoven. Beerens - who can play on either wing or as a support striker - made nine Eredivisie appearances for PSV, though only one start, while he managed two goals in 14 league matches at NEC. He also featured four times as a substitute in the Netherlands' triumphant U21 campaign, converting two penalties in the marathon semi-final shoot-out against England. Having finished fifth in the Eredivisie, Heerenveen will enter the UEFA Cup first round.
